Our Systematic Approach to Network Integrity

Tremor Media is working hard to make online video advertising more reliable and accountable than any other ad platform. As the largest video ad network, with hundreds of sites and hundreds of advertisers participating in our network, ensuring the integrity our network requires a systematic approach to operational excellence that is carried out through a comprehensive set of policies, procedures, and tools.

Put simply, the mission of our network integrity approach is to ensure we deliver what was sold. Our approach to Network Integrity is grounded in our company core values of Leadership, Excellence, Integrity, Accountability, Customer Focus, and Innovation. Network Integrity is so fundamental to our business that it affects every department of our organization. To provide a better sense of the definition and comprehensive nature of network integrity, below is a high level outline of both the framework and scope of Tremor Media’s approach:

Framework:

  • Policies – Strict contractual agreements with publishers and advertisers setting forth rules of engagement and remediation.
  • Procedures – A comprehensive set of steps to ensure our policies are enforced, including processes for vetting new publishers, manual network monitoring, exception handling, and remediation protocols for ongoing network integrity assurance.
  • Tools – A combination of proprietary and third party technologies to monitor, report and validate the adherence of our policies at both the network and campaign level.

Scope:

In addition to defining a comprehensive set of policies, procedures, and tools, Tremor Media has defined and addressed multiple aspects of network campaign delivery as part of our network integrity approach. Given the complexity of the online video space, it’s important to provide clear definitions of how campaigns will be executed to ensure that delivery is 100% as promised. Network integrity has many aspects, including these major components:

  • Content Integrity – Sites in our network meet specific standards for content quality and brand safety.
  • Site List Integrity – Campaigns run only within the approved site list.
  • Placement Integrity – Transparency and delivery of campaigns at the placement level which includes distinctions such as page position and play mode.
    • Page Position – Defined as the location of the delivery of a video ad unit with respect to a user’s active viewing window. On an initial page load, this means “above the fold”.
    • Play Mode – Defined as whether or not the video play was initiated by the user.
    • User Intention – Defined as to whether there is user intent to view video content, by visiting a dedicated video page or viewing sequential video within a playlist.
  • Targeting Integrity – Ensuring targeting parameters including behavioral, demographic, geographic, etc. are delivered as sold.

To further our commitment to network integrity by bolstering our third party toolset, Tremor Media was the first video ad network to announce a partnership with network monitoring service DoubleVerify.
